We tested three materials before landing on PA6-GF:

  • PLA — shattered on the first impact. Rigid and brittle under high-energy loading.
  • TPU 95A — survived initial hits but permanently deformed after 2-3 hard crashes. Cage got loose and floppy.
  • PA6-GF (glass-filled nylon 6) — absorbs impact, flexes, returns to original shape. Crash after crash.

PA6-GF is the same material class used in automotive engine covers and aerospace brackets. It’s not a toy material.

Why Geodesic Hex Lattice?

Each hexagonal cell distributes impact force across surrounding cells rather than concentrating it at the hit point. Same engineering principle used in aircraft honeycomb panels and automotive crumple zones. Maximum protection at minimum weight.
